One of his observations was that hypocracy is a substitute (an attempt to cover, hence a covering for sin)for the gospel. I found this insight penetrating and helpful in fighting it. I totally feel the same way. The Gospel strips us down so Jesus is all that's left. I also read this passage the other day. The portion that really stood out to me, especially considering our present course was vs 15 "15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell [5] as yourselves."
